Make a Tasty Watermelon Keg!

Today is Tasty Tuesday and MoneyMamma101 is back to show you how to make your very own Watermelon Keg.  Impress your friends with this easy and cheap party keg.  Or if you want it for your little ones just leave out the alcohol and fill it with tummy yummy punch (recipe below).  Here’s the how to:

Step 1:  Scrub your watermelon.  Make sure the surface is clean and dirt free.  Pat it dry with a towel.

Step 2:  Draw a circle around the top end of the watermelon where you will cut the lid off.  This should be about 6 inches down from the center of the crown.

Step 3:  Slice the top of the watermelon with a large knife to remove the lid portion.  Use the draw line from step 2 as a reference.

Step 4:  Use a large spoon or ice cream scoop to remove the inside “flesh” of the watermelon and set aside for later.  Be sure not to dig into the rind. Only remove the red flesh part.

Step 5:  Create a hole towards the bottom of the watermelon for the Faucet.  It’s best to make your hole a tad smaller than the diameter of the faucet you buy.  I use an apple corer.  Try not to make the hole bigger than the faucet or your keg will leak.

Step 6:  Insert your Keg Faucet into the hole you just created. (If you don’t have a faucet you can get a cheap one here.)

Step 7:  Fill the watermelon keg with your favorite recipe.

Tummy Yummy Punch (Kid Friendly)

  • 8 cups watermelon
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, halved
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 cups water

Combine the watermelon, strawberries, lemon juice, sugar, and water in a blender. Blend until smooth.  Pour into watermelon keg and add any extra chunks of watermelon you didn’t use in the punch.  You can add ice if you’d like to chill it.

Adult Watermelon Keg Punch

  • 1 L bottle Mount Gay Rum (do yourself a favor and don’t use Bacardi – use something nicer)
  • 1 package fresh mint leaves, stems removed
  • 6 limes
  • lime juice to taste
  • lemon juice to taste
  • ice

Puree watermelon
add lemon and lime juice to taste
add mint leaves
pour in the bottle of rum
taste it, and if you want, add more lemon or lime
chill until serving
to make sure its stays nice and cold add some ice cubes
fill the chilled keg
serve and listen to your guests saying “ahhhhhhhhhh!!”

Minion Bowling (Home-made)

Tons of plastic bottles get thrown away each day.  Why not make it a Modify Monday and use some empty 2 Liter bottles to make some minion bowling pins?  Here’s the how to:

Spray Paint – Yellow & Blue

Glue or Tape

Empty 2 Liter Bottles

I took 6, 2 Liter bottles, washed them out and glued the lid onto them.  Then spray the top with yellow spray paint.  Then spray the bottom blue.

Next print minion goggles. I did an image search to help you find the ones that best fit your style.  Click here.

If you don’t have access to a printer, you can just draw the goggles on with a black sharpie.  Try not to make them all look exactly the same.  Allow for some variations.

Follow these steps to finish your minions:

Let’s Talk Trash!

Today is Tidy Thursday and MoneyMamma101 is here to talk about something you use every day but probably think the least about… Trash! Everyone deals with trash can drama. It’s time to put an end to this drama with these simple tips.

There are a few alterations to make to your trash can to make it more ‘user friendly’.

  • The first is to take a drill and put a few holes in the bottom of each side of the can. This will STOP the bag from suction sticking when your trying to pull it out. When your friends see you lift your bag out with ease they will truly be impressed with what seems to be your super human strength!

  • Place command hooks upside down on the side of the trash can to stop the bag from falling down into the can.  (Click on the image below to get a great deal on command hooks for this project.)

Next we will discus some things you can do to make your trash can more ‘user friendly’.

  • Place old newspaper into the bottom of the trash bag to absorb liquids and stop them from collecting in puddles to leak out later in place you’d rather them not be.

  • Place a dryer sheet (New or used) in the can before you put the trash bag inside to prevent odors.

  • Use a command hook in your vehicle as a holder for a grocery bag trash.

That’s it for the “Let’s Talk Trash”  blog.  Be sure to share this blog with your friends and family.

Make Your Own Dog Treats

Home Made Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits

With all the sickness going around from store bought dog treats, I’ve been making my own. My dogs LOVE these and surprisingly they were easy to make.  You can get creative and make your own shapes by hand.  You can use cookie cutters, play-dough shape cutters, dog bone shape cutters, etc.  What ever your mind can think up.  Here’s the how to:

1 3/4 cup flour
1 cup milk
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1/4 cup wheat germ
1 cup peanut butter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Thoroughly combine all ingredients. On a floured surface, knead dough until smooth. Roll out to 1/2″ thickness and use cookie cutter(s) of your choice to make dog treat shapes. Bake on a greased cookie sheet for 20 minutes. Let cool before allowing your dog(s) to try one.
